Friends of Animals almost ready to be opened to the public

The shelter is almost ready to be opened to the public! Animals have been moved in and some of the new signage is up. Viewers can get to know the pups up for adoption by reading the information sheets that are posted outside each doggy dorm. More equipment has been moved into the surgical suite, and the entrance to the shelter is ready to welcome friends of animals. They have a “weetail” section in the entrance where items like t-shirts and water bottles are available for purchase. Date for the grand opening coming soon!

Animals are moved into the new shelter

May 1st came and went, and some of the animals are moved into the new shelter! There’s a lot more that needs to be done, but most of the flooring is now complete and the surgical suite is on its way.

Floor to ceiling, one week to go!

Getting a start on painting and flooring

There’s less than one month to go until Friends of Animals Humane Society will be moved into its renovated shelter! Volunteers painted most of the new shelter over the past two weekends Most of the upper level is painted, and new vinyl flooring is getting installed this week. The first picture shows what will eventually be the rooms for cats who are available for adoption. The second and third are the inside and outside of the doggy dorms. Windows have been installed in the dorms, and flooring will start next week. The last two pictures show the newly painted surgical area. The ceiling grid means ceiling tiles will be in the works soon.

Drywall creates formation of doggy dorms and more

Drywall has been installed, creating a nice visual for how specific rooms will look like at the new shelter. The second picture shows progress of the doggy dorms, and the third shows the rooms that will house some of the cats. The fourth shows the progress of the surgical and recovery rooms in the top level of the building.

Framing begins with wooden stud installation

The future look of the shelter is getting outlined this month. Wooden studs have been placed in preparation for wall installation. Specific areas like the exotic animal room, a meet-and-greet area, and an animal healthcare section are now outlined. The crew is also creating a trench drain near the doggy dorms for easy clean up by cutting out a slab of the concrete floor. The first image shows the lines drawn on the floor for cutting.

Demolition complete and on to new structure

Demolition of the Carlton County Public Health and Human Services building is finished and the building is ready to be transformed into an animal shelter. The space was emptied out within two weeks and The Boldt Company’s workers are moving on to installing structures according to the new floor plan.
